There’s A Huge Deference…

Tuesday, I talked about loyalty.

But loyalty doesn’t stand on its own.

Without respect, loyalty can start to feel more like

obligation—and there’s a big difference between

staying because you have to and staying because you feel valued.

When Was The Moment You Felt Proud Of What You’ve Created!

What have you built that made you proud before anybody else noticed?

Years ago, I would pull into my mom’s property and see the three trucks from the moving business Tommy and I had built from the ground up.

I remember thinking, “That’s us. That’s ours.”

Success isn’t always about what other people see. Sometimes it’s that private moment when you realize your hard work has become something real.

What was that moment for you?

Where Does Yours Lie?

Yesterday, I mentioned three things I’ve been thinking about lately:

Loyalty. Respect. Common sense. Let’s start with loyalty.

It’s easy to call yourself loyal when everything is going well. I think loyalty shows itself when standing by someone—or standing by your word—becomes inconvenient.

That’s when you find out whether it means something.

Lately, though, it seems like loyalty has become conditional. Some people are loyal only as long as the relationship benefits them.

But I can show you what true loyalty looks like and he has four legs and a fur coat. He stands by me no matter what.

That’s loyalty.  So let me ask you:

Has loyalty really disappeared—or have we changed what we expect it to mean?

Where Have All Three Gone!

I’ve been thinking about three things lately:

Loyalty. Respect. Common sense.

It’s not just that they seem unusual anymore. Sometimes it feels as though people have decided they’re unnecessary.

There was a time when standing by your word mattered. Treating people with respect mattered. Thinking about how your actions might affect somebody else mattered.

Now, some people just don’t seem to give a damn—as long as they get what they want.

Maybe—no, not maybe. Definitely. The world has changed. Our expectations have changed with it.

What do you think? Are loyalty, respect, and common sense disappearing—or have we simply stopped expecting them from one another?

How Consistent Are You?

For the last four and a half years, Maverick and I have taken our morning walk at about the same time every day. I don’t need to remind him—he expects it. That’s what consistency does.

Over time, it turns an action into a habit and a habit into something people can count on.

I learned the other side of that lesson when I stepped away from marketing my voice-over business for several months. When the consistency stopped, so did the momentum.

Whether you’re in voice-over or running any small business, marketing isn’t something you do only when you feel like it. Keep showing up—even when the results aren’t immediate. Consistency is what keeps your business moving forward.

How Specific Are You When Looking for Clients?

I was thinking this morning and I had to ask myself…“Who might need a voice actor?”  …is a pretty broad question.

But when you start looking at specific industries, specific job titles, and the kind of work those people actually produce, the picture becomes much clearer.

Getting specific doesn’t necessarily limit your opportunities.Sometimes ithelps you recognize the right ones.

Have you ever found that narrowing your focus actually opened more doors?

Stay The Course!

It’s easy to stay the course when you can see the results.

It’s much harder when the numbers
slow down and you begin wondering
whether your effort is making any difference.

I looked at some numbers this morning, and
they hadn’t changed much overnight. I’ll
admit, there was a little disappointment.

But not every bit of progress shows up
immediately. Sometimes people are
watching without responding. Sometimes
the work is doing something beneath the surface.

That’s when patience matters—but
patience doesn’t mean sitting still.

It means continuing to do the work,
making adjustments when needed,
and staying the course long enough
to give your efforts a chance to grow.

What helps you stay the course when the results slow down?

The Social Media Worm Hole

I’ve been taking a much closer look at who I follow on social media.

For a while, I followed people simply because they followed me. I should have been looking for genuine connections—people with shared interests, creative energy, or something meaningful to say.

I’ve made that change in my marketing plan, and I think I’ll start seeing the results soon.

Are you building a community or collecting a number?

A Serious Question…

Can I ask you something?

When you hire a voice actor, what
matters most—the voice itself,
how well they take direction, or
how easy they make the process?

Do you have a checklist or certain
guidelines you follow when making
that decision?

For me, the best compliment is simple:
“I’d hire him again.”

What earns your repeat business?

Just Call Me Gumby!

I always tell clients, “Hey, I’m Gumby—I’m flexible.”

You can walk into the booth completely prepared, and the client may suddenly want to take the spot 180 degrees in another direction.

That’s part of the job.

You can’t be locked into one interpretation.

You have to listen, take direction, and be

willing to let go of what you prepared to

give the client what they’re hearing in their head.

A good voice may get you hired once.

Being easy to work with—and flexible

enough to pivot—can get you hired again.

What do you think keeps a client coming back?
