Over the weekend, I read about a veteran Japanese voice actor speaking out against unauthorized AI copies of her voice.
One point stayed with me:
A person’s voice is part of their identity.
Technology will continue to evolve—and it should.
But there’s a real difference between using technology
creatively and using someone’s voice without
their knowledge or permission.
For voice actors, a voice isn’t simply a sound file.
It carries years of experience, emotion,
personality, and craft.
Where should the line be drawn when it
comes to recreating someone’s voice—consent,
compensation, or both?
