When Was The Last Time You Went Thru An Onboarding?

I’ve been thinking about onboarding lately.

When I joined Menzies Aviation after retiring from US Airways, I’d already worked at Newark, Baltimore, Orlando, and San Diego airports.

Even with all that experience, I still completed every step of their onboarding and training.
And I’m glad I did.

The company respected the experience I brought with me,
but they also took the time to teach me their way of doing things.

They never assumed I knew everything, and they never
treated me like I knew nothing.

That balance made all the difference.
Experience may open the door, but humility—and a willingness to learn—is what helps you become part of the team.

What Say You?

**I don’t know… maybe it’s just me.

Lately, I’ve found myself wondering

if we’ve forgotten how to pause

before we react.

We don’t all have to agree. But slowing

down, thinking something through, and

actually listening to each other still seems

like pretty good common sense to me.

What’s Your Favorite Method Of Communication

There was a time when if you wanted
to talk to someone, you picked up the phone.

Today, we have more ways to communicate
than ever before, yet sometimes it feels like
we’re communicating less.

Texts, DMs, and quick messages
are convenient, but they don’t
always carry the tone, warmth,
or sincerity that a real conversation does.

Maybe that’s one reason I enjoy being
a voice actor so much. A human voice
can add clarity, personality, and connection
that words on a screen sometimes can’t.

Technology is an amazing tool. I just
hope we never lose the value of hearing
another person’s voice.

How Often Do You Find Yourself Waiting?

Some days, the hardest part isn’t the work—
it’s the waiting. I’ve been dealing with a
painful hand that’s made even simple tasks 
more difficult.

The frustrating part isn’t just the pain;
it’s knowing that it takes weeks to get
in front of the specialist who might be
able to help.

It reminded me that there are seasons in
life when progress isn’t measured by how
fast you move. Sometimes it’s measured
by whether you keep moving at all.

Whether you’re building a business,
recovering from an injury, or waiting
for the next opportunity, don’t underestimate
the value of showing up anyway.

What’s Your Gage?

Twenty years ago, a productive day usually meant I was on my feet, talking with customers, solving problems, and making things happen.

Today, my work looks completely different.

I’m building something that lives in a digital world, so the heavy lifting isn’t always physical. It’s thinking, learning, solving, rewriting, and figuring things out one piece at a time.

From the outside, it might not look like much happened.

From the inside, it can be one of the most productive days of the week.

I’ve learned that progress doesn’t always leave sawdust on the floor. Sometimes it leaves a page full of notes, a better idea, or one problem finally solved.

What’s Your Key Word!

 

For me, the key word is balance.

I don’t think AI is the answer to everything.

I don’t think it’s the enemy, either.

It’s a tool.

Used well, it helped me organize my business, sharpen my focus, and spend less time chasing paperwork.

What it didn’t do was replace my voice.

That’s still my job.

And that’s exactly where I want to spend my time.

I Hit The Wall…

For a while, I hit a wall.

I was spending so much time trying to market myself that I started getting frustrated with the whole process. It wasn’t the work—I love the work. It was the feeling that I was spinning my wheels.

Then something unexpected happened.

I used AI to help me organize my business, my ideas, and my marketing. It didn’t replace my voice. It didn’t replace my creativity.

It simply helped me clear the clutter.

Now my job is the same as it’s always been:

Get my demos in front of the right people and let my voice do the talking.

Measure twice cut once!

This morning was a little frustrating.

I thought that a big chunk of dialogue

I worked on had been saved… wasn’t.

For a few minutes, it felt like I’d taken

a step backward. Then I realized something.

The work wasn’t wasted. The lesson wasn’t wasted.

From now on, every important milestone

gets saved before moving on to the next.

A simple change that will save a lot of

headaches down the road.

Sometimes our biggest progress doesn’t

come from getting everything right.

It comes from making sure we don’t

repeat the same mistake twice.

One of the best investments I’ve ever made wasn’t in equipment.

It was in coaching. A microphone can help you sound good, but a good coach helps you become a better communicator.
